Physical Appearance
Being a small, lanky person growing up, Claire often sought to better herself physically in any way possible. Even though Claire never knew what she wanted to do with her future, she always knew that regardless she'd want to stay in top physical shape. Due to that fact, Claire can often be found working out unconventionally when not working or with friends. A big fan of crossfit, the workouts have helped mould Claire into a fit, strong machine.
Claire has dark skin, matched by her piercing brown eyes that look almost black. Her stern will and determination makes it so that she always looks like she's angry, even when she's not. Not standing very tall, Claire is a little taller than the average American height of 5'5”. Claire keeps her hair buzzed down almost to the scalp, leaving little room to play with. A straight up, no nonsense buzz cut suits her just well and helps her stay within the limits of military protocol.
Personality
Years of struggle have made Claire almost completely cynical to the world. However, despite her inwards cynicism, Claire can easily convey an outward optimism towards the rest of the world. She views it all as a game, with regular people being pawns and nameless, fake smiles in the world of the corrupt and broken; except her family.
Family is one of the most important aspects to Claire, as she puts everything on the line for them, having her life basically revolve around it. Everyone who gets in Claire's way and threatens her family, whether it be blood or not, Claire sets out to eliminate. Having grown up within a single-Mother household, Claire was given all the tools to be independant and strong-willed by her Mother, which she uses to get what she wants... or tries to.
When it comes to her career within the National Guard, Claire is as professional and subordinate as they come; often taking orders and executing them to the best of her ability with no questions asked. This has never been a problem for her and has helped her excel when she was undergoing Basic Combat Training. Claire is determined to be the best and to be successful in order to provide for her family, so she puts her heart into everything involved with it. This doesn't mean that when she's given instruction or presented with an ideal from a superior that she doesn't agree with she'll change her opinion. The strong-willedness that was instilled upon her from the very beginning has made her have a wide-variety of her own (sometimes very controversial) opinions. This ties in with her being very cynical, as she will more often than not point out something so wrong to the people that don't want to hear it that she'll wind up very unpopular with the masses. Claire's bull-headed stubborness is something that often gets her into a lot of trouble and is often described as her biggest downfall.
History
Growing up in Los Angeles, California to a poor, single Mother left Claire with little to succeed with. The family was on government assistance, having to often resort to food stamps to feed themselves for the week. Claire was put into school as all children are and was warned about not getting involved with the wrong crowd at a very early age.
Claire heeded her Mother's warning but found it hard as growing up, most of her friends fell to the allure and got involved with gangs and crime. It was an easy way out for a life of continuous poverty in Inglewood, California. However, when Claire turned 13, her Mother informed her that before she was born, she had a Brother who was a part of one of Los Angeles' notorious gangs and was killed in a shooting. After getting over the initial shock of the news, Claire resolved to never let herself get dragged into a life like that and leave her Mother, who had done everything for her and continued to do so, alone and miserable. Claire resolved to better herself in every regard and began working out, studying, and doing her best in everything she set her mind to. Unfortunately, in the end, it wasn't enough as even though Claire graduated with honors in math from high school, she was never offered a scholarship and there simply wasn't enough money to send her to a good university or college.
Claire was stuck; she could either continue living at home with her Mother and doing nothing, or she could try and go get a routine job that was as soul-sucking as signing ones own soul over to the Devil. Neither of these options tempted Claire, who resolved to helping her Mother out and paying back the woman who had given everything for her through the only option that would grant that at that point in her life: the military. Begrudingly, Claire resigned herself to this fact as fear and anxiety flooded her; the army was never her choice growing up. She never even considered that was what her future had in store for her. She'd seen the occassional war movie but she was not military buff nor was she interested in them in the slightest. In fact, she was quite the opposite; having oppossed the "War on Terror" since the get-go. But in order to get anywhere in life and to help support her Mother, Claire was going to have to swallow her own pride and bite the bullet; doing what most people feared... serving her country.
Claire signed up for the California National Guard a little while after she graduated high school and quickly went through Basic Combat Training. Once becoming a fully qualified soldier, Claire was assigned to the 79th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 160th Infantry Regiment, 1st Battalion, Charlie Company, Alpha Platoon, Bravo Squad with the rank of Specialist.

I don't want to do this, I don't want to do this... The thought scrambled through Claire's mind as she walked up through the Army Recruitment center. She breathed in deeply, looking around and eyeing the room with caution; a handful of people were also in the reception area, not in uniform. Good... I'm not the only one. I still don't want to do this... Claire continued to think as she felt the anxiety rise in her chest while getting in line behind someone. She did her best to keep her outward appearance calm and collected; her head held high and making eye contact with everyone who looked her way, but on the inside she was chaos incarnate.
The man in front of Claire finished his business with the Army recruiter and Claire anticipated hearing the word, "Next!" but it never came. Instead, the man in front of her went to sit down in the reception along with the other would-be applicants and the soldier rose to walk back into an unseen office area; most likely to file some papers.
The waiting made Claire feel even worse. The anxiety rose to a point where she worried that when she was called up to the desk to explain why she was standing in that office, she's squeek and give away the chaos inside of her. Claire did her best to force the feeling down, squeezing her hands into fists and trying to regulate her breathing. It didn't feel like it was working, but she tried to convince herself otherwise.
Eventually, the soldier returned and brought Claire up to the desk front and center. Claire explained herself as calm and collectedly as she could muster while the soldier did nothing but stare; something that made Claire feel even more uneasy. She felt like the soldier was judging her, already thinking she didn't have what it took to be a soldier. But once Claire had finished explaining herself as to why she was there that morning, the soldier pulled a couple of forms along with a clipboard and pen out from somewhere unseen behind the desk and handed them over to Claire with instructions on what and what not to fill out, where to sign, etcetera. Taking the documents and her seat next to the other people in the room, Claire felt a little bit of the unsease pass as she read the papers. Okay... that wasn't so bad. I can do this. Yeah, this is pretty simple. Quietly, she began to fill out the forms.
---
"You do not get to sit down and rest! PRIVATES! Get up and head out into the parade hall!" Claire's first day at boot camp after being shouted awake was not turning into an easy one. She and the rest of the female troops had very little time to get dressed, tidy and make their beds, grab their kits, eat, and finally sit down for what they assumed would be the first of many classroom instructions before three of the Drill Sergeants made their way in, screaming once more.
The troops were rushed out of the classroom into the parade hall where they were instructed to get into situp position. The Drill Sergeants got down with them as they began to pump off pushup after pushup, counting aloud as they did. The troops in training were expected to follow suit, which they all did to differing success. Claire, having always kept herself fit as she grew up found following along easy enough until the Drill Sergeants got to around 25 without any sign of stopping. Other troops were already on the ground, struggling as the Assistant Drill Sergeants yelled at them to get up and continue. Claire soon found herself in the same predicament as them; struggling to push herself back up as she lowered her body to the ground.
It wasn't long before the Assistants' attention was focused on her and those around her. This only fueled the matter worse; causing her now to not only be exhausted and strained, but embarassed, as well. Shit! Get up! Push! but Claire couldn't push anymore; her arms had completely given out on her and she fell to the ground, grunting in pain and frustration as the Assistant Drill Instructors surrounded her and a select few other troops who failed to follow along. As Claire struggled to follow their new instructions, all that ran through her mind was her Mother. Remember, you gotta do this for Mom... It's shit, but you gotta. With that in mind, Claire pushed on.
