Physical Appearance
Having always been lanky growing up, Damian was never one to let that be a stereotype to define him. Working out regularly to keep himself in shape, his body is very defined and strong if not overly muscular. Standing at 5'8", Damian was never the tallest but enjoyed his average height as he could meet most people at eye-level; just the way he likes it. Despite having natural blonde hair, Damian explored the wonders of hair dye in his earlier teenage years and settled on his favorite: blue black. Having been some time since he last dyed his hair, the blue tint has faded as has some of the black and now it sits at a dulled black with hints of the blonde underneath shining through. Along with the dye, Damian always enjoyed letting his hair grow out a little longer than was deemed "socially acceptable". Employing a clean shaven face (though sometimes letting stubble grow) and a very pale complexion from staying mostly indoors, Damian's striking looks came mostly from his Mother's side. He never considered himself very good looking, but most people always told him that he was exceptionally handsome and continued to become even more so as time went by.
Personality
Damian is one of the most understanding and caring individuals one can ever know. Never one to quickly judge, Damian always tries his best to understand a situation completely before he makes his own opinion on it. Unfortunately, he sometimes can't help but get caught up in gossip and mistruths; thus making him a little bit gullible. This, however, has never stopped him from being who he is. Outspoken, stubborn, and driven; Damian stops at nothing to be successful. If there was one way to describe Damian and his work-ethic, it would be "perfectionist". The young Canadian has always tried to make things in his life as perfect as possible and gets highly bothered when things don't go exactly as planned. This doesn't stop him from accepting life's little mistakes; often-times accepting them for what they are. Mostly reserved and quiet, Damian only ever opens up about himself once someone gets to know him; however, in a social gathering, he is the first one to speak and has often been described as the life of the party. While Damian follows a straight edge lifestyle, he doesn't let that ruin his own idea of having "fun" with others. The confidence Damian employs is a learned survival tactic to which he has become a master and thus has made him very brash. He realizes this and despite also having a quick temper, Damian is often one of the first people to see reason. Always seen as a leader within any group he's a part of, Damian uses his confidence and sincerity to win hearts and minds and hopes that one day he'll find a group of people that will truly accept him for who he is.
History
Damian was born on March 1st, 1991 in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Growing up, Damian never knew his Father as he left two weeks after being born to pursue a life of crime and drugs. Damian was raised by his Mother who often struggled to make ends meet; often working 15-hour days just to get by. Because of this, Damian never really knew solidarity and the pair moved often. The only time they truly settled down and found a place where they lived for a while was in a run-down basement apartment in not the worst, but a pretty terrible neighborhood of Toronto regardless.
Damian usually did his best and tried to make friends but for some reason just never seemed to get it right. He was often picked on but never let anyone just get away with it. His Mother had instilled in him that he had to be strong to survive and thus he would defend himself if provoked; often extremely. He was suspended many times from school due to his violent outbursts and only really gained control of himself when he started high school.
When Damian became a teenager, his Mother met a pilot and the two quickly became engaged. Up until that point, Damian had never known his Mother to be in a stable relationship; seeing men come and go and being afraid to get attached due to the fear of them leaving just like his real Father had years prior. When his Mother got married to the pilot, Damian resisted the notion and tried to stop it but was ignored and completely shot down. The pilot and Damian rarely got along; often ending up having verbal spats and on some occassions getting into a physical confrontation. While his Mother was married, Damian suffered from the constant verbal abuse of his newfound step-Father and thus the relationship with his Mother began to suffer as a result. Damian tried to keep his head down and keep to himself and eventually found someone to take his mind off of the constant war at home; a young woman on the Internet who he soon became infatuated and fell very in love with. The two had a long-distance relationship for a very long time and Damian eventually opted to leave home after graduating high school and moving to the United States to be with his love.
Unfortunately for Damian, things didn't turn out the way he wanted and found that upon his arrival, the girl that he'd been so in love with was playing a game with him and had been cheating on him for a while. Devestated, Damian didn't know where to turn. He was stuck in another country without the means to live and work to survive and knew that if he'd returned home, he would never live his mistake down. Damian eventually swallowed his pride and returned home, shattered.
A very dark period began in Damian's life and he became very depressed and on many occassions tried to take his own life. During this time, the marriage between his Mother and the pilot also began to deteriorate and the two eventually ended up getting seperated after having a Daughter; Damian's half-Sister. It took many years for Damian to become stable enough again to once more go to school, this time college; where he studied Police Foundations. Putting the emptiness of being completely broken hearted behind him, Damian looked forward and focused on his studies and eventually graduated at the top of his class. It was then that he got offers from police agencies all over the country for him to become a Constable and begin his career. But the most tantalizing offer had come not from a Canadian police agency, but a United States one. Due to his remarkable performance in college and high marks, he had caught the attention of the Los Angeles Police Department and was offered a starting position as a Police Officer I. Knowing that the city of Los Angeles suffered from one of the worst crime rates in all of North America, Damian knew that he'd be able to apply himself and do a service there unlike anywhere else. After accepting the offer, he was on his way to getting a green card and officially became a member of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Quickly advancing through the Los Angeles Police Department's academy and rising through the ranks, Damian became a well-respected and known Officer that had a very successful arrest record. Damian was quickly on his way to becoming a part of the Los Angeles Police Department's Sergeant Team as a Sergeant I before he was approached and recruited for the Office of Criminal Intelligence as a Detective. Having no doubts about it, Damian accepted and was deployed as a Homicide Detective; getting up close and personal with the worst side of crime that Los Angeles had to offer.
Example Post
Damian held a cloth to his face as he entered the trailer; the smell was overwhelming. If his stomach had been any weaker, he would have for sure thrown up as soon as he entered. His eyes burning from the rancid stench, Damian took a step forward and followed the patrolman that had requested his presence into the master bedroom of the modest trailer home. Once inside, Damian looked around and found nothing to be out of place except for something that was slightly sticking out from under the bed; as if someone had pulled it out and tried putting it back underneath but couldn't quite manuever it properly. Kneeling down and lifting the side skirt of the bed up to see what it was that was sticking out with his free hand, Damian's stomach had nearly given up his dinner. If the smell hadn't been bad enough, the sight was even worse.
Damian had seen his share of corpses since becoming a Homicide Detective, but nothing ever like this. The corpse was in a coffin and had been severely decayed; several months by the look of it. There were also multiple punctures all around the torso and abdominal areas as if the person had been stabbed; Damian counted roughly 30 in all. The neck and windpipe area had also been partially crushed; signs of strangulation evident.
Replacing the bed's side skirt and standing back up, Damian nodded to the patrolman and motioned for the two to step outside for a moment. Once outside, Damian removed the cloth from his face and breathed in the night air. Despite the large amount of pollution in the city, Damian thought it was one of the freshest breaths he'd ever inhaled. Turning to the patrolman, the Detective asked, "Who found the body?" to which the patrolman pointed.
Sitting nearby on the hood of a cruiser was a 10-year-old boy who had his legs to his chest, hugging himself. The boy was currently being consoled by the patrolman's partner and Damian swore silently under his breath, whispering. "Jesus Christ, how much do you want to bed that corpse was related to this boy? He's got to be traumatized."
Damian thanked the patrolman and walked to his car, reaching inside and grabbing a bottle of water. Closing the door behind him, Damian walked with the bottle of water in hand over towards the young boy on the hood of the cruiser and asked the patrolman's partner for some privacy. Granting the Detective his request, the pair were left alone to speak.
Damian knelt down so that he was looking up at the boy's face and offered the child the bottle of water in his hands. "Hi bud, are you thirsty?"
The boy shook his head to the negative and continued to cry into his knees. Damian frowned and reached up to place the bottle of water on the hood of the cruiser next to the boy. "What's your name?"
Sniffing and wiping his running face on his pants, the boy quietly whispered his name to Damian, "George..."
"Hi George. My name's Damian and it's very nice to meet you."
George then began to cry harder and whailed, "My Daddy's gone!"
Damian rose to his feet and leaned forward, wrapping his arms around George's small, convulsing frame and held him against his body while softly cooing him. This poor boy was going to be severely traumatized for the rest of his life because of this and Damian knew all about being traumatized. Many a night had he woken up screaming, suffering from intense nightmares and night terrors as a result of all that he'd been through in his life and the things he'd seen in this line of work.
Damian gently rubbed the boy's back in a soothing manner, whispering, "It's not your fault, George." He knew his words wouldn't mean much now, but hopefully one day down the road they would make a difference.
